Condition: Good. Cover is scuffed and has dog-ear creases on some corners, as well as a half-inch split to the paper at the bottom of the front spine edge. Pages have a few smudges and half-title page has a stamp indicating that the book was once the property of the Crystal Lake South High School Social Science Department. (The book is NOT an ex-library book, however.)

Contents: Have you ever taken a class and been assigned some reading that was so interesting you resented having the experience ruined by having to study it? That's the kind of reading this book is. One of its great attractions is the heavy use of contemporaneous quotations and illustrations, so that the story is told largely in the words of the participants. Although this book was owned by a high school, it certainly is not dumbed down for the juvenile reader, and anyone with an interest in the subject will find it a worthwhile addition to his library, not only for its content, but for its extensive bibliography and suggested reading list.
