From the jacket
Full of revelations, THE MORTAL PRESIDENCY presents much material not available anywhere else in published form, and often corrects the historical record. For example, contrary to common belief, Kennedy suffered from malaria as well as from Addison's Disease, Eisenhower suffered from potentially life-threatening cardiac problems both before and throughout his presidency (although this fact was carefully concealed from the public), and Reagan came within minutes of death after being shot in 1981. This is also the first book to show the link between Coolidge's lackadaisical performance in office and his deep depression following the death of his 16-year-old son.
