Contents: From the Foreword:

The concept of a topographical surgical description of the individual regions of the body is that seen by the surgeon viz. The view through the eyes of the surgeon as he makes his surgical approach. From the superficial layers inwards, the deeper layers are removed to present a diagrammatic view of the various structures. Thus the book can be used in the teaching of anatomy. It illustrates the topographical relationship of the various structures and demonstrates to the operator the structures which he is likely to encounter during the course of an operation and emphasizes those to which he must pay special attention.

The drawings are based on preparations made form the Alsatian (or German Shepherd Dog) breed. The artistic part of the book has been carried out by Gertrude Pelloni with extraordinary skill. She has illustrated every fine detail in a most accurate manner, even down to the deepest layer. Each illustration is a work of art which gladdens the surgeon's eye. . . . .The anatomical terminology adapted is that of the Latin which approximates to the recognized international anatomical nomenclature.
