Contents: In addition to the publisher's note below, it's interesting to note that this book is the first edition. It was later revised to take into account Bloomberg's candidacy for Mayer. In the final pages of THIS book, Bloomberg writes: "I've never run for political office myself. I have no interest in being a legislator. The pace, the focus, and the compromises don't appeal to me. The legislative process is so boring that I'd last for all of five minutes as a senator or a congressman. If I ever ran, it would be for a job in the executive branch of government -- mayor, governor, or president. I think I'd be great in any of these three executive jobs that mirror my experience. (Those wanting competent government needn't worry. I have no current plans to enter the public arena.)"

Well, four years is a long time, and I guess everyone is entitled to change his or her mind. Bloomberg was elected to his first term as mayor or New York in 2001. In the Afterword of this book he said: "We're running a risk, putting down on paper something we can't easily retract." I'm sure people will be going through all of his original writings (not the revised editions) with a fine tooth come should he ever decide to run for president.

Publisher's Note:

Brash, aggressive, and supremely self-confident, Michael Bloomberg, the visionary leader of the world's fastest-growing media empire, has been hailed as the new standard for what it takes to win in the Information Age. Dismissed from Salomon Brothers in part because of his outspoken personal style, he has...built a news and financial information business that encompasses online and wire services, radio, television, and print media. His uncanny sense of "who needs what" information and how best to deliver it has pushed his company to explosive growth rates year after year....

Now, for the first time and in his own hard-hitting style, Michael Bloomberg offers an intimate look at the mind and personality behind the Bloomberg logo. In BLOOMBERG BY BLOOMBERG, he combines personal reminiscence with penetrating insight into the ceaseless, worldwide demand for fast, accurate financial information. He describes in vivid detail his early Wall Street career, both the victories and frustrations, including a personal account of what it was like to be fired and given $10 million on the same day....

We learn how he has brilliantly applied the concept of synergy -- even to the extent of labeling all his products with his name -- to build success upon success, and how his dedication to in-house technology and low-cost pricing strategies has added conquests in ever larger and more diverse markets....

With customary candor, Bloomberg reveals how his idiosyncratic managerial methods -- including the absence of physical partitions and job titles in his offices, and his fierce insistence on total company loyalty -- have been instrumental in building his organization.

A fascinating "must-read" for anyone who needs to keep up with developments in the worlds of business and information, BLOOMBERG BY BLOOMBERG is the autobiography of a major player and grand-scale entrepreneur whose original thinking and bold moves are changing the very face of the media business.
