Milwaukee: A Chronological & Documentary History 1673-1977, by Lankevich, George J. [Editor]. Oceana Publications: Dobbs Ferry, New York, 1977. Edition: No edition stated. Presumed first.. ISBN: 0379006200. Hardcover, 8vo6.25 by 9.25 inches, 154 pages. Brown cloth with gilt lettering on cover and spine. Text pages, except for the title page and copyright page, are in typewritten manuscript format.
Condition: Good Plus, no jacket. This is an ex-library book, and the bibliographical sticker on the inside cover, the card pocket on the first free end paper, the ownership stamps, and the sticker residue on the spine resulting from that history are what keep it from being Very Good. On the plus side, it was in the holdings of the Manzano High School, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Given the content and the audience, it probably remained untouched from its adquisition to its deaccession. Interior pages are clean and unmarked.
Contents: The first part of the book is a year-by-year chronology that hits the high points of Milwaukee's history from its days as part of the Northwest Territory through 1977. This succinct but helpful list of dates and events is supplemented by excerpts from contemporary documents of travelers, newspaper articles, or the published reminisces of early settlers. All of these provide fascinating reading to anyone at all familiar with the city.
