The Lame Horse: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment, by Rooney, James R.. A.S. Barnes & Co.: South Brunswick, New Jersey, 1979. Edition: Fourth printing. ISBN: 0498012786. Hardcover, 4to, 7 by 10.25 inches, 237 pages. Light olive colored cloth with black lettering on spine. Illustrated with black and white photographs (including X-ray images) and line drawings.
Condition: Near Fine in a Good jacket. Light bumping to lower spine end, other corners sharp and unbumped, text pages clean and secure. A very nice copy. Jacket has had the top inch of the front flap removed in a square price-clip, although a price of £7.50 is still shown on the lower corner of the flap. Front of jacket shows a substantial amount of rubbing, nd spine ends and margins show small chips and tears.
Contents: An excellent book, not only for the horse owner who has to deal with lameness, but for the horse owner who wants to prevent it. An artful combination of X-rays, photographs of the legs of living animals and of interior damage uncovered by autopsy combined with easy-to-understand drawings take much of the mystery out of how the legs of a horse are put together, and clearly show the kind of stresses, strains, and injuries that can lead to lameness. If you own a horse, you need this book in your library. It's that simple.
Some examples of the type of drawings that help illustrate the book. Note the upper left corner, where you can see the extent of the price clip, which was made straight across the inside flap:

A good reason why so many trainers refuse to keep halters on their horses in the stall::
