1892 Map of the City of New York For Special Use of Delegates to the Eleventh International Christian Endeavor Convention, by Committee of '92. The Estey Organ Company: Brattleboro, Vt., 1892. Softcover, 1 pages. A card map, folded to approximately 2 3/8 by 5 1/2 inches and encased in a blue cardboard tri-fold wallet. Map is colored in light and dark pink for land areas and light blue for water areas. Unfolded size is 16 3/8 inches wide by 29 3/8 inches tall. Scale is approximately 1500 feet per inch.
Condition: Very Good. Card sleeve is somewhat soiled and worn, and map has become detatched from where it was originally glued. Map itself has one slighltly crimped corner giving about 1/4 inch dog-ear. Map has original fold lines, but is otherwise in beautiful condition, with bright colors and no tears. (My scanner seems to wash out the colors a bit. The full length picture shown below is probably a better indication of the colors than the scan in the upper portion of this description.)
Contents: This map is titled as being for the City of New York, but it primarily shows the Manhattan area, bounded by the Hudson and East Rivers. Small portions of Hoboken, Jersey City, Brooklyn and Long Island City are included. The northernmost street shown is 130th.
The map was intended for the use of attendees to the Eleventh International Christian Endeavor Convention held at Madison Square Garden, and it's special use is evident by the prominence given to items of interest for this group.
The hotels used by the convention attendees are numbered on the map and listed in the legend, together with their location and information about which states' delegates were headquartered in each.
Churches are likewise numbered and their locations given in the legend, broken down by denomination: Baptist Churches, Congregational Churches, Friends Meeting Houses, Jewish Synagogues, Luthern Churches, Methodist Episcipal Churches, Presbyterian Churches, Protestant Eposcipal, and Reformed Dutch Churches. Denominations which merited a mention with location but no number on the map include: Reformed Presbyterian, Disciples, United Brethern, United Presbyterian, and Reformed Episcopal. There are no Catholic churches to be found on the map.
Also numbered and listed in the legend are many public buildings and prominent institutions, museums, colleges, libraries, etc.
In addition to the individual street names clearly visible on the map, there is a great deal of information about transportation, including how to get to Madison Square Garden from a variety of locations. The legend also gives the location of Railroad Depots, Ferries (North River), Ferries (East River), and Principle Steamer Lines. This map was drawn a mere nine years after the Brooklyn Bridge was opened, and dotted lines show the numerous ferry routes still in use across the Hudson and East Rivers. Most of the piers around the southern tip of Manhattan are labeled with company names. Elevated railroads and stations, and surface lines are also indicated.
Properly framed and displayed, this map would make a stunning piece of artwork for any home or office in Manhatten, or for anyone with an interest in that area just before the turn of the (last) century.
Map unfoldeded. (Ruler is 42 inches long.)

Tri-fold card wallet that protected the map.
