Contents: Publisher's note:
Light Horses is a basic handbook on the training and care of pleasure horses, written in a direct and informative way that spells authority....
Training methods, a subject most professionals never reveal, are described and explained in a practical how-to-do-it manner. Points to be considered in buying a horse are listed and discussed. The author also discusses many other important details -- the care of stables and riding equipment, how to feed horses, and how to care for their minor ailments.
The book includes general information as well -- present-day types and classifications of horses, their general characteristics, and the various breeds of light horses and their background.
Technical tips on the riding and driving of horses, and the all-important methods of breaking bad habits, come in for their share of discussion. All I all, the horse world hides no secret from Mr. Rooks and he, in turn, hides nothing from the reader.
