Title in English: The New Book of the Mission. Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. A teaching and prayer book, mainly taken from the works of St.. Alphonsus Liguori. Suitable to preserve the fruits of a holy mission.

Black leather with title on spine in gilt. Simple gilt cross on cover. All page edges gilt. Black end papers in moire silk pattern. Frontispiece.

Condition: Very good. Some wear to spine ends and light scuffing to cover. End papers tanned; bleeding from back black free endpaper onto its recto side, but no other evidence of dampness or damage.

Contents: The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, or Redemptorists, is a Catholic missionay society founded in Europe in 1732. They came to America a hundred years later, and the spiritual care of German speaking immigrant congregations became a prominent part of their work. The bishop of St. Louis, having been impressed by their several successful missions in his archdiocese, requested the Redemtorists to establish a foundation in St. Louis. Iin 1866 they opened a mission house, and the large stone church of St. Alphonses was built at that location.

This little book was published in St. Louis by B Herder, at the time, the American branch of Herder and Herder, a well known publisher of Catholic scholarly works.
