Contents: The Beery School of Horsemanship was founded in 1908 in Pleasant Hill, Ohio by Jesse Beery. "Professor" Beery was famous in his day for offering public exhibitions of his horse training methods. Not only that, but he created the Beery Correspondence School of Horsemanship, which offered several sets of instruction, one of which is the Saddle Horse Instructions.

The Saddle-Horse set teaches everything from how the rider should mount and hold the reins to how the horseman should teach the slow gait and rack. The focus is on the American Saddlebred type of horse and the "ranch" horse, and the books are illustrated with photographs of famous winning Saddlebreds and Western show horses from the 1950's and 1960's.

It's really no wonder that these pamphlets were printed for so many years. I have spent many years hanging around training barns, and the professionals who make their living training horses and colts are still using some of these "secrets."

The pamphlets are written in the style of the early 1900's, and most of the illustrations have that old fashioned look to them. But the pamphlets have apparently been revised at times through the years, since their copyright dates are more recent.
