Contents: The author, Increase Lapham, was one of the country's best known naturalists and engineers. He came to Milwaukee in 1836 and died there in 1875. Wisconsin Geography and Topography (1844) was one of his earliest and most important works. This is the second edition of that work, "greately imrpoved" as noted on the title page. In addition to general intrductory material on the history and native inhabitants of Wisconsin, it contains a summary of the geogology and prospects of each county. Published in Milwaukee by I.A. Hopkins "146 U.S. Block", this also qualifies as an early Milwaukee imprint.
